Instructors
Here at Innovative Defensive Solutions we are committed to bring you the best possible information in the personal defense training market. Sometimes that means bringing in outside instructors to teach a special block of instruction or a specific course for a specific context. Rather then become a “jack of all trades, and master of none” we take the approach that we need to focus on what we are great at and not try and provide half ass training. To this end that is why you only see Defensive Handgun training and counter ambush training on our website.
If you are interested in getting training that you don’t see listed on our website or content that would not be covered by any of the experts below, let us know, so that we can host or bring in an outside instructor to your area to provide the training and be a resource for you, your family and your friends.
William Aprill of Aprill Risk Consulting
Training Offered by ARC – Unthinkable: Concepts and Techniques for the Gravest Extreme
Click here for Dr. William Aprill’s full Bio!
Unthinkable is, in brief, a tour of the dark side of criminal violence. In one very full day, attendees will undertake a fast-paced and interactive overview of how dangerous aggressors think as they decide whom to victimize, and we’ll review target demeanor and behavior for cues that we appear easily victimized. Hands-on training will introduce robust, effective techniques for disarming an assailant armed with a pistol and the day will finish with an in-depth survey of the best processes and methods to establish a powerful and adaptive defensive mindset.
William will be doing a join class with us in June 2016. Click here to view our calendar!
Craig Douglas of ShivWorks a.k.a. “SouthNarc”

We are working on getting Craig @ the Doswell range in late 2016 or early 2017. This would most likely be the ECQC course but could also possibly be the VCAST course.
Extreme Close Quarter Concepts (ECQC)
The ShivWorks Extreme Close Quarter Concepts (ECQC) course is a two and a half day (20 hours) block of instruction which focuses on a multi-disciplinary approach to building functional, combative handgun skills at zero to five feet. The course is designed to instill core concepts of seamless integration and provide the platform for aggressive problem solving during a life or death struggle. A heavy emphasis is placed upon commonality of body mechanics between skill sub-sets, which means that all combative software is reinforcing. Once the student’s skill sets are initially ingrained, the participant will be stress inoculated with force on force drills utilizing marking cartridges and protective equipment.
Vehicle Combatives and Shooting Tactics (VCAST)
The ShivWorks Vehicle Combatives and Shooting Tactics (VCAST) course is a twenty-four hour block of instruction focused on developing combative functionality with firearms and empty hand skills in and around vehicles. The coursework is contextually underscored for the problems an armed citizen might possibly face from criminal activity. VCAST is a high liability course due to the nature of the developmental drills and evolutions.

Between 2009 and 2012, Aaron attended CrossFit certifications for both powerlifting and mobility as well as a 16-hour Self-Myofascial Release certification with Jeff Alexander. Aaron has also been actively training with the coaches and athletes of Columbus Weightlifting since achieving his USAW Sports Club Coach Certification in March 2010. In the summer of 2010, Aaron began training intensely in defensive firearms and tactics under Rob Pincus and has since earned several certifications under I.C.E. Training Group. In 2011, Aaron became a sponsored athlete for Lift Big Eat Big and recently attended the Strongman Certification hosted by LBEB owners, Marshall White, and Brandon Morrison. In 2015 He took on the role of Ambassador for the Lululemon brand and continues that work now.
After over 7 years in the self-defense and fitness industry, Aaron is still passionate about making people fitter and safer. He has been afforded the opportunity to study and train with some of the best instructors of Krav Maga, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Firearms, Kali, CrossFit, and Olympic Weightlifting. He consistently pursues knowledge and training to not only better himself but to better those around him. In 2013, Aaron stepped away from his most recent position to open his own facility. This is his new journey and he hopes you join him on this Endeavor.
