Innovative Defensive Solutions (IDS and IDS Training) delivers personal defense training built for real-world application—not convenience, trends, or mass production.

We conduct training on our private range in Northern Virginia, at select public ranges throughout the NOVA region, and at host facilities across the United States. Our programs include defensive handgun training, home defense instruction, and specialized training packages tailored to the specific needs of our clients and host organizations.

While defensive handgun and home defense training form the foundation of IDS, our scope extends well beyond firearms alone. We offer instructor development, pepper spray and less-lethal training, state-certified concealed carry courses, and consulting services. These services cover a wide range of professional and operational needs, including range development and management, range officer operations and training, individualized coaching for both students and instructors, advanced firearms training, crime prevention, and carbine or shotgun instruction where appropriate.

IDS has grown consistently—not through aggressive marketing or volume-driven classes, but through word of mouth and student referrals. Class sizes are intentionally limited to ensure individual attention, accountability, and measurable skill development. Our focus is not how many people we train, but how well prepared our students leave.

Our instructor cadre is made up of serious personal defense practitioners who are deeply invested in their own development. Many of our adjunct instructors bring experience from prior or active-duty military service, National Guard or Reserve units, and local or federal law enforcement. While backgrounds vary, every instructor is selected based on judgment, professionalism, teaching ability, and commitment to responsible personal defense—not titles alone.

While appropriate certifications are maintained where required, IDS places far greater emphasis on continual training, pressure-testing, and ongoing education than on static credentials. Our instructors train regularly as students, participate in advanced coursework, and continue to evolve as teachers and practitioners.
